Alderman Larry Roberts,
Ward 4

Larry Roberts, who is in his second term as Alderman, Ward 4, is truly a Goodwill Ambassador for City of Ridgeland. After talking with Larry for a short time, you realize that he loves his wife, loves his son and loves Ridgeland. Also, Larry has a sense of mission about supporting and growing the recreational activities for youth and continuing to develop Ridgeland’s identity as a family-oriented community.

Prior to being elected Alderman, Larry served on the Recreation & Parks Advisory Committee, appointed by Mayor McGee. A long-time participant in civic, church and city activities, Larry’s interest in providing leadership for the area in which he has lived for 25+ years was fueled when friends and neighbors suggested that he run for Alderman.

“Having worked in finance and banking for all my life, I believe that my knowledge is beneficial to all the citizens of Ridgeland. I’m proud of the conservative fiscal approach to management that we provide, and I’m committed to supporting the Mayor’s approach of business management. We are determined to continue a business-friendly climate that provides a strong financial foundation and promotes growth,” said Roberts.

Larry works to promote redevelopment of the Ward he represents. It is his goal that residents continue to enjoy safe neighborhoods, and he is committed to revitalization of the area, one of the City’s oldest, to assure that it continues to be an asset. Larry supports the City’s investment in maintaining the area to protect property values.

Larry attended East Central Junior College and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a business degree and minor in finance. Larry joined the Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman with the Marines at Paris Island, SC, in Vietnam, with a MedEvac unit in Da Nang, in Yokohama, Japan, and on the Navy Hospital ship. Upon completion of three years of service, he returned to Mississippi to start his career as a civilian.

While at Depositor’s Savings, he met and married Telise in 1976. Larry moved on to Deposit Guaranty National Bank, where he worked until medical problems caused him to take a leave. Currently, Larry works with Rose Creek Funding for an independent broker, Larry Foote, as a mortgage loan processor.

Larry and Telise are proud parents of Jay, a junior at Ridgeland High School. You’ll find them cheering Jay and his teammates at football, soccer, baseball and a host of other athletic and academic events. Larry’s love and support of youth activities is evident by his participation. He coached baseball and soccer for nine years and was active as a board member of Madison Ridgeland Youth Baseball, Northeast Jackson Soccer Organization, South Madison County Soccer Organization and many others. A strong supporter of development of the City’s new Freedom Ridge Park, Larry sees it as, “A giant step toward establishing comprehensive youth services.”

Active in St. Matthews Methodist Church, Larry participates as a member of the choir, the administrative board, as a past Sunday School teacher for junior high kids, and is on the Family Ministries Board. Larry is a long-term supporter of such causes as Habitat for Humanity, Promise Keepers, North Park Lions Club, Ridgeland High School Booster Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where he joins Mayor McGee and friends to wrap gifts at Christmas as a fundraiser. Well, Larry and the Mayor run the register and recruit customers. When he gets away for recreation, you’ll find Larry involved in hunting, fishing and golfing.
