Ridgeland Is Open For Business. The City of Ridgeland continues to grow and prosper and remains the heart of the metro retail community. The sales tax collections for the past nine months have increased phenomenally at the rate of 11.39%. Several major retail shopping areas are presently under construction. Property valuation has increased by over 12% in the last year, outdistancing all other metro area jurisdictions. With many new construction projects underway or being planned, future growth is expected to be high.
Strong growth is also reflected in increased assessed value of property from year to year. Ridgeland’s total assessed value of residential, commercial and industrial land climbed from $324,042,393 in 2005 to $364,484,065 in 2006.
In reports released by the Community Development Department of the City of Ridgeland for fiscal year ending September 2005, the city issued $76.2 million in building permits. $45.2 of that total was a result of new nonresidential building.
It’s no surprise that nonresidential construction was especially significant with $26,814,524 in offices, banks and professional buildings, $11,072,354 in stores and customer services construction, and $2,295,000 in schools and other educational buildings.
New residential buildings included 103 new single-family detached houses and no multi-family dwellings. Additions, alterations and conversions of residential and nonresidential properties were valued at $7.7 million.
Compared to fiscal year 2004, the City of Ridgeland experienced an increase in total value of building permits issued of approximately $7.9 million. New nonresidential building permits saw an increase from last year of over $25.1 million.
Total value of building permits issued in 2005 was greater than every year over the last 10 years.
