The City of Ridgeland’s Public Works Department maintains streets, water and sanitary sewers, storm drains and ditches, water tanks and water wells, as well as city facilities. The department is also charged with monthly water meter readings, city vehicle maintenance, and the operation of a cemetery. Their services are provided in an effective and safe manner for the health, safety and welfare of Ridgeland citizens.
Two new frost-proof water fountains were installed with adult, child and dog bowl dispensers along the multi-use trail at the trail head on Rice Road and where it intersects the Highland Colony Parkway. Fleet Feet and Jackson Heart Clinic each sponsored one of the fountains. The City also plans to install four additional fountains at various locations along the trail through a grant from the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Department.
The City has completed the White Oak Creek Sewer Interceptor System that will serve many residents on the west side of I-55. This project was financed through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
A new water tank and phase one of the distribution systems are complete. The new line will serve customers along Pine Tree Lane, Livingston Road and Mary Miles Road. Phase II and III will serve residents previously on the Livingston Road Water Association.
Two new multiuse trail connectors are completed that will provide access to the trail at Highway 51 and Jackson Street. This heavily landscaped connector trail is in keeping with the view shed consistent with the Natchez Trace Parkway.
As part of Ridgeland’s Enhance program sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, we have set a goal to increase our tons of recycling from 50 to 70 tons per month. We will accomplish this by including small businesses and apartment complexes into the program. There is also an ad campaign that we will kick off this spring that will include a billboard advertisement encouraging recycling. The advertisement is chosen through a contest sponsored by Highland Elementary School.
