New fire truck built for Ridgeland, public viewing set for August 15

The City of Ridgeland is adding a new fire truck to its fleet. Construction has been completed of a custom built fire truck to be housed at Station 3, 880 Rice Road. Built to the Ridgeland Fire Department’s specifications, the new truck features a custom chassis with a 350 horsepower engine and a 1500 gallon per minute pump. It has an onboard water supply of 500 gallons.

“This pumper truck is replacing a truck that is being retired from service. It will be a good asset for Station 3, serving the east district of the city,” remarked Ridgeland Fire Chief Matt Bailey.

Since the truck will be located at Station 3 adjacent to the Ross Barnett Reservoir, it was built with two sections of hard suction hose in case there is ever a need to draft water from the reservoir.

“This truck is unique among the city’s pumper trucks,” said Bailey. “It is a combination pumper that uses foam suppression in addition to water suppression.”

A compressed air foam system will suppress a fire faster and more efficiently than water alone according to studies conducted by the U.S. Fire Administration.

Once the new truck arrived from the manufacturer, Emergency Equipment Professionals, it underwent pump testing by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau. The Ridgeland Fire Department has been busy installing new accessories on the truck. It will be released for service as soon as possible.

Come to Ridgeland City Hall at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15 to take a tour of this beauty! Children are encouraged to climb aboard! This new combination pumper truck will be housed at Station 3, replacing a truck that has been retired from service.

The public is invited to view the truck from 5:30 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15 at Ridgeland City Hall.
