Children enjoy the playground at Wolcott Park

Ridgeland Loves To RECRE8. It’s safe to say Ridgeland’s Recreation and Parks Department is among the city’s busiest and most vital. It seeks to enrich the quality of life for the citizens of Ridgeland by offering safe and accessible park facilities and a diverse recreational and activities program. The department’s goal is to provide residents with the opportunity to develop new skills, to create new interests, and to learn new hobbies that will enhance and expand their physical, mental, and social development.

Managing and staffing Freedom Ridge Park, a 50-acre state-of-the-art athletic facility; Friendship Park, a multi-purpose neighborhood park facility; Wolcott Park, a 40-acre athletic facility; Ridgeland Recreational Center, a two-story rustic lodge overlooking Ross Barnett Reservoir; Ridgeland Tennis Center, a full-service, public tennis facility; and Ridgeland City Hall’s soccer and t-ball fields, Ridgeland’s Recreation and Parks team does a fine job with some of the community’s most utilized resources.

In addition to the upkeep of these fine facilities, the Recreation and Parks Department also administers an incredibly wide variety of programs and events. This includes high-profile events drawing participants and fans from all over, such as: the Heatwave Classic Triathlon, the Celebrate America Balloon Glow, the Natchez Trace Century Ride, softball tournaments, even Major League Soccer games. On a local level, the team manages wonderful youth programs like Summer Day Camps and Lose The Training Wheels™ Camp. For senior adults, Recreation and Parks offers everything from low-impact choreorobics and yoga to bridge and ballroom dancing. Then, of course, our athletic programs are second to none. Adult softball is extremely popular, while organized youth sports such as baseball, basketball and track & field are rapidly becoming rites of passage for area youths. We also offer empowering athletic programs like HOOPS and TOPSoccer for children with mental or physical disabilities.
