Major League Soccer
Ridgeland Recreation and Parks and the South Madison Soccer Organization (SMCSO) host professional soccer teams, Chicago Fire and a competing team, in an exhibition game every spring. The teams play in Ridgeland at Freedom Ridge Park before the beginning of the regular MLS season. Freedom Ridge Park is the site of the only professional soccer matches played in Mississippi. "What a great opportunity for the communities of Mississippi and other surrounding states to see the highest level of soccer available in this country, " said Kenny White, Director of South Madison County Soccer Organization. "The Chicago Fire has made Ridgeland their home for spring training. We are extremely proud to host them and look forward to many more". In past years, Chicago Fire played Dallas Burn, New York/New Jersey Metro Stars, and Chivas Los Angeles. In addition to the MLS action, University women's soccer teams compete in the afternoon prior to the evening MLS game.
