Youth Programs

Mother's Day Card Contest
Do you make a special card each year for your mother? Enter our Mother’s Day Card contest, and you could win a prize for you and your mom! Design a card for your Mom letting her know how much you care, and submit it to the Ridgeland Recreation and Parks office. Ridgeland Recreation and Parks offers this program every year in time for Mother’s Day. Call the office for registration information.

Santa's Calling
Ridgeland Recreation and Parks has made special arrangements with Santa Claus to call children ages 3 - 7 in Ridgeland to see what they want for Christmas.  Calls are usually made on the Monday two weeks prior to Christmas between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. 

Lose The Training Wheels™ Camp  

Ridgeland Recreation & Parks would like to help any would-be cyclists who are looking to lose their training wheels. Ridgeland Recreation & Parks, in conjunction with Lose the Training Wheels and their parent company, Rainbow Trainers, Inc., will offer this special camp. Click here for more info


Start Smart Basketball (Youth)
Preschool Ages 3-5
Start Smart Basketball prepares children ages 3-5 for organized basketball in a fun, non-threatening environment. The program helps parents teach their children a variety of basketball skills including: dribbling/ball handling, shooting, passing/catching, and running/agility. The class will meet for six one-hour sessions. Parent participation is required. Each child will receive a mini basketball, a Teslon® basketball, 4 cones, a participant’s manual, and a t-shirt. A minimum of 10 participants is required in order for the class to make. A maximum of 20 participants will be allowed.

Hoops
Hoops is a basketball program for children with mental and physical disabilities. Ages 8 and up are invited to come out and learn how to play the game of basketball. Registration will be held January 2nd – 20th at Ridgeland City Hall in the Recreation and Parks office. The fee is $25.00 per player. Teams will be selected and a jersey will be provided. Games will begin in February. Volunteers and buddies are needed to help players during the game.

TOPSoccer
This soccer program will be offered to those who are mentally and/or physically challenged and ages 5 years and up. Adapting and modifying according to the player’s ability while achieving success through participation, is the key to making this program succeed. The benefits of TOPSoccer include:

  • physiological - muscular strength/endurance, respiratory/circulatory endurance, coordination, flexibility and agility.
  • Psychological – improving emotional stability, mental fitness and self-expression.
  • Sociological – build habits and attitudes of courtesy, self-control, sportsmanship and socialization.

Volunteer coaches and buddies are needed to help with this program. RR&P offers this youth program every fall with registration in the summer. Call the office for program dates and registration information.

Adult Programs

Dog Obedience
An obedient dog is a happy dog because all dogs want to please! Jackson Obedience Training Club (JOTC) offers puppy, beginner and advanced dog obedience classes. The nine-week class will teach obedience commands of heel, sit, down, stay, come and a few other commands that you will use in everyday life with your pet. JOTC is a non-profit organization established in 1969 and licensed by the American Kennel Club.
