Ridgeland public schools announce back-to-school dates; prompt registration encouraged

RIDGELAND, Miss. – Ridgeland public schools announce the following dates in preparation of the upcoming school year.

Registration
As a reminder, residency information must be provided by August 1 for new and returning students, including students pre-registered for kindergarten. Registering students in a timely manner allows scheduling and classroom assignments to be completed more easily.  Please register your students prior to the first day of school.

To verify residency for returning students, please bring a lease or mortgage document and a copy of two current utility bills to the school office your child will attend. The bills should be dated no earlier than June-July 2013. Seventh-graders must get the Tdap booster vaccine and provide an updated immunization 121 form.

The following should be provided to register new students entering Madison County public schools in the Ridgeland attendance zone:

• birth certificate
• immunization form (121 form)
• social security card
• proof of residence (lease or mortgage document)
• two current utility bills, dated no earlier than June-July 2013
• report card from previous school

Children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2013 may register for kindergarten.

Titan Community
Picnic on the Grounds  – Saturday, August 3, 5-7 p.m.

Titan families are invited to a picnic potluck on the grounds of Ann Smith Elementary Saturday, August 3, 5-7 p.m.  Hot dogs will be provided; families are encouraged to bring a side-dish or dessert to share. Attendees can meet other families, PTO board members and host Principal Dr. Melissa Philley.

Meet the Teacher – Monday, August 5, 3-6 p.m.
This come-and-go event offers students and parents the opportunity to meet their new teachers, visit their classrooms and drop off school supplies* before the first day of school.

First Day of School – Wednesday, August 7

Back-to-School Night – Thursday, August 22, 6 p.m.
All parents are encouraged to attend a brief Parent Teacher Organization meeting, followed by an event designed to help parents get to know their child’s teacher, learn about classroom procedures, meet other parents and ask questions.

This come-and-go event offers students and parents the opportunity to meet their new teachers, visit their classrooms and drop off school supplies* before the first day of school.

Back-to-School Night – Monday, August 19, 6-7:30 p.m.
All parents are encouraged to attend a brief PTO meeting, followed by an event designed to help parents get to know their child’s teacher, learn about classroom procedures, meet other parents and ask questions.  This is a general information meeting; individual conferences may be scheduled with teachers for another time.

Students report for first day of school and receive schedules.

Back-to-School Night – Thursday, August 15, 6 p.m.
This is a parent-only event.  All parents are encouraged to attend a brief introductory meeting and PTO presentation in the gym.  Parents should bring a copy of their child’s schedule, as parents will have the opportunity to rotate through the student’s schedule to meet all their teachers.

Early Schedule Pickup – Wednesday, July 31, 5-7 p.m.; Friday, August 2, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Join the PTO for $25 and receive your child’s schedule early.

First Day of School – Wednesday August 7, 8:15 a.m.
Students report for first day of school and receive schedules.

Back-to-School Night – Monday August 26, 6 p.m.
Parents should bring a copy of their child’s schedule, as parents will have the opportunity to rotate through the student’s schedule to meet all their teachers.
