Memorial Day Commemoration scheduled for Friday, May 24 in Ridgeland

The Military Order of the World Wars and Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland will have a service Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. to commemorate Memorial Day. This event will be the first of several in the metro area highlighting the service, dedication and sacrifice of veterans who have ensured our numerous freedoms.

Col. Dennis Smith, formerly of WLBT and a retired Mississippi Army National Guard officer, will be the keynote speaker. Rep. Gregg Harper, Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, Ridgeland Alderman D.I. Smith and others will also participate. Five wreaths will be laid in memory of the fallen of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Desert Wars.

The 172nd Airlift Wing will provide the Color Guard. Wright and Ferguson will provide a reception after the conclusion of the ceremony at approximately 11 a.m. The event will be held at the Wright and Ferguson cemetery located at 1161 Highland Colony Parkway.
