Ridgeland City Government consists of a Mayor and a seven-member Board of Aldermen. Each of the city’s six wards has one Alderman and there is one Alderman-at-Large. These dedicated public servants work with one another and their constituents to fulfill the mission of the City of Ridgeland. In charge of one of the state’s fastest growing and economically prosperous cities, Ridgeland’s City Government is not only streamlined and efficient, but also accessible and flexible.

Six city committees act as advisory boards to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.  The committees are comprised of citizens who have been nominated by the Mayor and Board as well as Ridgeland Tourism Commission, the City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, and the committees.  Each committee member is approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

The Zoning Board is responsible for holding public hearings involving requests for rezonings, conditional use permits, and dimensional variances. They make recommendations to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for property and zoning related decisions.

The Architectural Review Board is responsible for regulating the exterior appearance of buildings, structures, and improvements proposed for alteration or construction in areas zoned residential (except for R1 and R2 which is handled under the Subdivision Ordinance), commercial, industrial, and public buildings.

Members appointed by the Mayor and Aldermen, City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, and the committee to represent the following focus areas:  education, religion and recreation.

The Community Awareness Committee is charged with serving as a conduit of information to and from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and helping establish long-range goals and projects for Ridgeland.  The Committee is instructed to involve more citizens in community life, to raise opportunities for volunteerism, and to build open communications for community decisions and projects.

The Committee meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Board Room.

The Beautification Committee recommends to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen programs and projects that would, in the opinion of the Committee, improve the beauty and general welfare of the City of Ridgeland.  The Mayor and Board of Aldermen may request the advice or cooperation of the Committee for any project or program connected with beautification, cleanliness or general welfare of the City of Ridgeland.

The Committee meets in the office of the Recreation and Parks Department, located at City Hall on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

The Contractors Board of Adjustment and Appeals has the power to hear appeals of the decisions and interpretations of the Building Official and considers variances of the technical code.  The Board also approves or disapproves all new applications for mechanical, plumber, and electrician contractor licenses.

Contractor’s Board meets quarterly on the third Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Community Development Conference Room.  Meetings are held in February, May, August, and November.

The Ridgeland Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee acts as an advisory board to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen concerning the operation of the parks and recreation programs.  The Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee may additionally undertake assignments, duties or projects  with regard to recreation and parks as the Mayor and Board of Aldermen direct.

The Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Recreation and Parks Office.
