At the Amateur Softball Association Council Meeting in Shreveport, LA, Ridgeland Recreation & Parks was one of four cities to receive the James Farrell ASA Award of Excellence for hosting three of the top rated National Championship Tournaments in 2010. This outstanding department received a 100 rating out of a possible 100 from the Amateur Softball Association in 2009, making the tournament in Ridgeland the highest rated national championship out of the cities recieving the James Farrell ASA Award of Excellence. Ridgeland has hosted eleven national championships over the past seven years and all have received the James Farrell ASA Award of Excellence.

In 2008 and 2009, Freedom Ridge Park was selected as host site for U.S. Soccer Under-21 Girls Olympic Development Training Camp. Ridgeland was chosen to host the “Bound 4 Beijing” USA Softball Women’s Team National Tour in 2008 and the “Aiming for Athens” USA Softball Women’s Team National Tour in 2004.

Freedom Ridge Park won the 2007 Amateur Softball Association National Complex of the Year Award. Major League Soccer earned Ridgeland a 2007 Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association Class II Special Events Award of Merit. Heatwave Classic Triathlon also earned a Special Events Award of Merit in 2005 by the Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association. The 2006 Therapeutic Recreation Award of Merit by the Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association went to Lose the Training Wheels.
