RIDGELAND BOARD OF ALDERMEN NAME THE GENE F. MCGEE CITY HALL

RIDGELAND, MS – The Board of Aldermen unanimously passed a resolution during last night’s board meeting and surprised Mayor McGee by naming City Hall as the Gene F. McGee City Hall in recognition of his remarkable 35 years of service as Mayor. This tribute also marks a significant milestone in the City’s 125th anniversary celebration.

“I am thrilled for Mayor McGee and the honor of having City Hall named in recognition of his legacy. It is a privilege to serve alongside him, and I look forward to the bright future ahead,” said Wesley Hamlin, Mayor Pro Tempore.

  • WHEREAS, from his early beginnings on a dairy farm in Hickory, Mississippi, Gene F. McGee learned the value of a strong and unwavering work ethic; and
  • WHEREAS, Gene F. McGee began his adult life in the business field; and
  • WHEREAS, Gene F. McGee first began his political career as a Ridgeland Alderman in 1985 and served for four years; and
  • WHEREAS, Gene F. McGee went on to run for Mayor in 1989 and remains Mayor to this day, 35 years and counting; and
  • WHEREAS, his passion for healthy living has influenced his leadership, resulting in Ridgeland’s development of top-tier recreational facilities, miles of multi-use trails; and
  • WHEREAS, through his tireless leadership and exceptional vision, Ridgeland has grown from a small town into a thriving community, known for its vibrant business environment, recreational opportunities, and educational resources; and
  • WHEREAS, guided by his faith in God, Mayor McGee has applied his principles to every aspect of his life—as a husband, father, grandfather, businessman, and dedicated leader of the city; and
  • WHEREAS, Mayor McGee’s extraordinary work, dedication, vision and integrity will have everlasting effects on the City of Ridgeland,
  • NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Board of Aldermen, for the City of Ridgeland, Mississippi, do hereby execute the authority in naming Ridgeland City Hall the Gene F. McGee City Hall to honor and show appreciation and respect for his many tireless years of labor in making the City of Ridgeland a better place to live, work and play.

“This great honor is a perfect fit. This building plays an important role in communicating the success of Ridgeland. City Hall is only one of Mayor McGee’s many outstanding accomplishments. Mayor McGee’s vision and leadership over the next four year term will build upon these accomplishments and further galvanize the future of Ridgeland as a place where people want to be,” stated Alan Hart, Director of Public Works.

Mayor McGee is planning to run for another term in 2025. Congratulations, Mayor McGee, on this well-deserved recognition!
