Officer Winstead’s First Responder Award

OFFICER BRYCE WINSTEAD RECEIVES FIRST RESPONDER OF THE YEAR AWARD

RIDGELAND, MISS. – Each year, Keesler Federal Credit Union honors all of the first responders who protect the communities where we live and work.“To show our gratitude to these brave men and women, we encourage every department in our footprint to nominate one First Responder of the Year,” stated Caitlin Bradshaw, Keesler Federal Credit Union. Each winner receives an award plus a $100 gift card, both presented in person. This program has been in place for over five years and is still going strong!

On October 25, Officer Bryce Winstead was honored, and Keesler Federal Credit Union representatives presented him with the First Responder of the Year Award at the Ridgeland Police Department. Fellow members of the force, Chief Brian Myers, Mayor Gene McGee, Officer Winstead’s family, and several more were in attendance for the presentation.

Officer Winstead has served with the Ridgeland Police Department since 2020. Since joining the department, Officer Winstead has proven himself to be a vital member of the police force, where he serves as a Street Crimes Unit Officer.

Officer Winstead, while out patrolling, was notified of a motor vehicle accident just outside Ridgeland’s jurisdiction. He responded to assist with injuries until medical personnel could arrive. Upon arrival, he encountered a female who had suffered a life-threatening injury to her arm, and she was bleeding profusely. Officer Winstead, trained in emergency first aid, quickly applied a tourniquet above the wound. His heroic measures bought this victim some critical time so medical personnel could arrive and transport her for emergency surgery. Chief Myers was later contacted and was advised that Officer Winstead’s actions had ultimately saved this woman’s life. Chief Myers stated that he was “very proud of Bryce and was thankful that he was able to get to the scene quickly and operate calmly under pressure. This department is full of officers, much like Officer Winstead. We will always strive to protect the people of this community.”
