Sr. Adult Programs

Our mission is to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment where adults over 50 can come to participate in activities to enhance their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

All programs are located in the Ridgeland Recreational Center at Old Trace Park unless stated otherwise.

Our programs include: Group Exercise Classes, Seated & Standing Yoga, Line Dancing, Martial Arts, Tap Dancing, Men’s Bible & Coffee, Seasonal Craft Workshops, Pickleball, Bridge, Bingo, Dance Aerobics, Garden Club, Art Workshops, Annual Valentine’s Luncheon, and Mayor’s Fun Walk events & more!

Weekly Programs

Exercise

  • $15/month
  • Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. & 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
  • Instructors: Lynda Assink, Rita Latham & Martha Millsaps
  • Certified instructors lead participants through a series of cardiovascular and strength training exercises specifically designed to improve flexibility and health in senior adults.

Line Dancing

  • $10/class or $40/month
  • Mondays at 6 p.m.
  • Instructor: Darlene Epple
  • Learn a variety of line dances while exercising in a fun way. No partner needed.

Martial Arts for Seniors

  • $10/month
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
  • Instructor: Andy Dillon
  • Learn age and physically appropriate traditional martial arts and practical self-defense techniques.

Seated Yoga

  • $5/class
  • Mondays and Fridays
  • 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Instructor: Martha Millsaps
  • This is a great beginner class where basic poses will be taught with a focus on breathing and focusing your mind.

Standing Yoga

  • $5/class
  • Mondays and Fridays
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Instructor: Martha Millsaps
  • This is an extension of the chair yoga that focuses on standing poses for strength and balance.

Senior Fit

  • $15/month
  • Mondays and Wednesdays
  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.
  • Instructor: Sally Holly
  • Improve balance, flexibility, and strength through stretching and light weights for those recovering from recent illness, surgery, or neurological diseases.

The Complete Mix

$15/month

  • Mondays and Wednesdays
  • 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
  • Instructor: Sally Holly
  • Intermediate circuit type exercise combining low impact cardio, balancing, stretching and strengthening exercises.

Tap Dancing

  • $5/class
  • Mondays
  • 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
  • Instructor: Monica Russell
  • Beginning to intermediate tap dance instruction. This group performs at Ridgeland events and nursing homes.

Men’s Bible Study

  • FREE
  • Tuesdays
  • 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  • Men are welcome to join the group in person, and everyone is invited to watch the recording on Facebook @RidgelandMensBible.

Mat Pilates: Starts Sept. 8th
$5/class
Fridays 12 PM – 12:30 PM
Instructor: Martha Millsaps
Pilates is popularly known as a core-focused workout, but it’s actually a whole-body exercise. Pilates works with your breath, targeting your smaller and deeper stabilizing muscles. It supports your joints through a balance of strength, mobility, and flexibility. Great extension class behind yoga because it targets all muscles that yoga might have missed. Brainercise
$10/class
Wednesdays 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Instructor: Karen Poteat
A highly interactive brain health class to help participants reduce stress, develop a more positive outlook, and engage in a myriad of activities that provide effective, whole-brain cognitive stimulation. $30 Annual Supply Fee is due by 2nd class. Click here for more details.

Artmakers

  • FREE
  • Tuesdays
  • 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • All mediums (painting, drawing, scrapbooking, beading, knitting, etc) and artistic levels are welcome to join for friendship and encouragement. Bring your own supplies.

Monthly Programs

Ridgeland Garden Club

  • $20/year
  • 1st Tuesday of the month
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • A monthly meeting (September – May) for those who love nature and gardening. Fun and educational programs served with a nice lunch. Contact President Pam Stephens at pstephens_jam1@comcast.net for more information.

Bridge

  • $1
  • 3rd Thursday of the month
  • 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • A team trick-taking game played with a standard 52 playing card deck.
  • Must sign up in advance.

Ornish Group

  • FREE
  • 4th Tuesday of each month
  • 11:30 a.m.
  • Participants all have a common goal of reversing their heart disease and improving their well-being.

Birthday Bingo

  • FREE – Space is limited!
  • Must sign up in advance.
  • 4th Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted on the newsletter.
  • Everyone is invited to play bingo, win prizes and eat cake in celebrating all of the birthdays each month.

Special Events

  • Senior Adult Valentine Luncheon

Delicious food, flowers and music, friends and fun await you. Our luncheon is a big draw for seniors across the metro area. Ridgeland Recreation and Parks offers this special event every year the week before Valentine’s Day.

  • Mayor’s Fun Walk

A favorite event of local senior adults, the Mayor’s Fun Walk, includes a walk with the Mayor , health information, demonstrations and entertainment. This event is held in October. Click here for Registration Form.
