CITY OF RIDGELAND SENIOR ADULT PROGRAM RECEIVES TWO PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS
RIDGELAND, MS – The City of Ridgeland Senior Adult Program, led by Neeley Jones and the Ridgeland Recreation and Parks Department, was recently honored at the Mississippi Recreation & Parks Association Conference.
Their team received the Recreation Programming Award of Merit – Single Program for the 2022 Mayor’s Fun Walk Event. For 29 years, Ridgeland Recreation and Parks has held the Mayor’s Fun Walk event in October for our senior adult community. This free event involves a walk with the mayor, vendor, community awareness booths, giveaways, food, fellowship, and entertainment. With the 2022 event marking Senior Adult Coordinator Neeley Jones’ first anniversary in this position and her first Mayor’s Fun Walk event to plan, every detail was accounted for. This year’s event will be the 30th anniversary and held on October 11 at Northpark.
The team was also proud to receive the Recreation Programming Award of Merit – Program Series for the Ridgeland Senior Adult Program. The program consists of several regularly scheduled programs each week and month. Weekly programs include exercise programs totaling five different group exercise classes that meet multiple days a week, two yoga classes for seated yoga and standing/floor yoga that meet two days each week, dancing classes including line dancing and tap dancing, and a martial arts class. Each exercise program is led by a certified trainer employed on a contract basis. Together, they have over 140 years of instructing experience. Fellowship opportunities include our Tuesday morning men’s Bible study. Monthly programs include the Ridgeland Garden Club meeting for those who love nature
and gardening, a Bridge card game, and a birthday bingo game celebrating those with birthdays
each month.
The Senior Adult Program also hosts many special events and month-long workshops. A few examples are the Annual Valentine’s Day Luncheon, arts and crafts classes, a Christmas party, bowling, health and wellness workshops, pickleball, and much more.
